exist has partnered with Metro Arts to present nine events since the inaugural exist in 08.

1) exist in 08

For the first ever EXIST international festival of live art performance art and action art, “exist in 2008” Metro Arts hosted the Plenary program [breakfast talks with the artists] as well as the Dias program [local emerging artists]. The Dias program was attended by a range of audiences as well as invited guest: international presenter Nikki Millican (National Review of Live Art). Many artists from the Dias program in 2008 have gone onto continue and grow in their performance and creative industry careers, including Brittany Guy, Genevieve Trace, Emma Che Martin, Lauran Clelland, Abject Leader and Sarah Winter.

2) exist-ing #3 Muhammad Lugas Syllabus

“feeding the soul”
homage to visible soul – sudjojono 1913 – 1986 -“I reject viewing indonesia as if through a window and only seeking after the exotic.”
This performance will explore notions of authenticity for an indonesian situated outside of my own culture.  In examining my identity as a displaced indonesian artist, travelling in the name of art.

3) “The 2 Day Project”
-exist ARI in Residence work for Metro Arts, Brisbane, Australia 2011

The project existed for 2 weeks of continuous making. A “mini collaboration residency” for artists to work with 1 other over the space of 2 full days. A selection of performance or “in-between” artists were given a space to make what they could in limited space; an effort to develop new ideas and collaborations through the provision of space for action to happen. Artist duos from the 2 day project include Clark Beaumont and Courtney Coombs and Antoinette J Citizen

4) Dimanche Rouge #21

exist in partnership with Dimanche Rouge (Paris), Tape Projects (Melbourne), Alaska Projects (Sydney), Ptarmigan (Helsinki) produce a multi-city international online-streaming event of experimental performance. Dimanche Rouge the Paris Live Art ARI celebrates its 21st edition by going down under on a four-city extravaganza of experimental performances in Paris (France) and in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne (Australia).  A wide array of groundbreaking performances including performance art, dance, multimedia, video, sound, actions, street art, live painting, spoken word and installations will be presented

5) Friday Nights: May “Cold Metal”

exist as part of Metro Arts’ new Friday Night event series; is excited to be programming a series of works from live artists in the Metro Arts’ Carriageway. Inspired by the theatre of black metal, this show requires the punter to suspend disbelief in order to participate. From the outside, it could look like nothing – but in order to really open yourself to the meaning, you suspend judgement – and through that action, you enable your participation, your active presence in the ‘Cold Metal’ theatre. Featuring Alrey Batol and Stasis Duo

6) Friday Nights: June – There’s Something Dancing in the Driveway”

exist as part of Metro Arts’ new Friday Night event series; is excited to be programming a series of works from live artists in the Metro Arts’ Carriageway. “There is something Dancing in the Driveway” –A multi faceted ultra installation involving projection, light sculpture, sound and interactive displays. A glimpse; A movement in the distance; A flash of light; Uncertainty; What did you see? What did you hear? What did you dance to?”

8) Friday Nights: October

With Special International Guest: Barbara Rosenthal (USA) and local artists Dhana Merritt, Bonnie Hart and mediated by Rebecca Clunn-Cunningham.

9) Friday Nights: November

On the first Friday night of each month Metro throws open doors and invite audiences into the Artists’ space. Each month we showcase works in development; rough, ready, and full of potential. Take the opportunity to step into studios, participate in talks, see the unseen, give feedback on new ideas and have a glass of wine with Brisbane’s artist community.
